Nancy Coffelt Studio

Image
Visiting Nancy Coffelt at her studio in a historic building in downtown Baker City.  High ceilings and natural light make for a great space for Nancy to create her colorful paintings.  She has a background in writing and illustrating children’s books, and has worked in a variety of mediums. Some of her Papier Mache sculptures can be seen around town, including City Hall.  Currently Nancy is creating acrylic gouache paintings mainly of animals with a whimsical bent.  She does many commissions and memorial pieces.  You can find her work at Peterson’s, Crossroads-Carnegie Art Center, and Royal Artisan in Baker City, and via her website:  https://www.yessy.com/nancycoffelt/gallery.html   An alleyway entrance. This piece was created during earlier days of the Covid pandemic, expressing the challenge of bravely facing a new and mysterious situation.  Nancy's palette....bright colors! Another pandemic-times work....the feeling of social distancing. A memorial piece.

Studio Visit with Ann Mehaffy

Image
Visiting the studio of Ann Mehaffy in Baker City. Set within her beautiful garden on the edge of town, Ann mostly creates paintings in this space although it is set up to pursue the occasional sculptural piece and many other inspirations. With a background in printmaking and watercolor, Ann is currently working with printer’s ink, acrylics, and graphite in an abstract expressionist style. Most of her works are on paper from her printmaking days.   She sells out of her studio. Ann says “I mostly create without much thought to audience or purchasers. I make things for the pleasure of tapping into what I call THE DEEP, where I find unexpected rabbit holes, glorious trails, maddening frustrations and beautiful successes, all coming from the unique experience and expression of who I am.” This work bench is ready for anything.  A multi media creation Small dolls A supply of high quality papers Many of Ann's pieces are reworkings and reconsideration of earlier works.  This large piece w

Ceramics Studio of Mary Sue Rightmire

Image
We can't do the live tour this year due to pandemic precautions, but in the meanwhile, here are some images from the studio of Mary Sue Rightmire of Baker City.  Mary Sue works in ceramics and pottery in her studio in a historic former residence near downtown.   She is set up for full production, with design workspace, spaces for processing clay, throwing and shaping works, glazing, a spray booth, and a pug mill for recycling clay.  She has an indoor electric kiln, and a gas powered outdoor kiln.  Mary Sue does a variety of work, including smoke fired finishes (which is the image with all the "trash" cans used for this process.)  You can see the influence of Japanese design and techniques in her work, as she spent considerable time there learning her art.  She is currently showing at Crossroads-Carnegie Art Center.
