Baker Artists Tour (formerly Baker City Open Studios Tour) takes place every year in October in Baker City, Oregon. Each year, Baker City's artists open their studios to the public to show their process and sell work. It is an exciting opportunity to see how and where are is created. In 2022, there will also be artists display and sales tables at Crossroads-Carnegie Arts Center, and a scavenger hunt of local public art, studios, and galleries. 

It is free to the public. 

We invite everyone from all over to come and meet these extraordinary artists!

Ceramics Studio of Mary Sue Rightmire

 We can't do the live tour this year due to pandemic precautions, but in the meanwhile, here are some images from the studio of Mary Sue Rightmire of Baker City.  Mary Sue works in ceramics and pottery in her studio in a historic former residence near downtown.   She is set up for full production, with design workspace, spaces for processing clay, throwing and shaping works, glazing, a spray booth, and a pug mill for recycling clay.  She has an indoor electric kiln, and a gas powered outdoor kiln.  Mary Sue does a variety of work, including smoke fired finishes (which is the image with all the "trash" cans used for this process.)  You can see the influence of Japanese design and techniques in her work, as she spent considerable time there learning her art.  She is currently showing at Crossroads-Carnegie Art Center.

Nancy Coffelt Studio

Visiting Nancy Coffelt at her studio in a historic building in downtown Baker City.  High ceilings and natural light make for a great space for Nancy to create her colorful paintings.  She has a background in writing and illustrating children’s books, and has worked in a variety of mediums. Some of her Papier Mache sculptures can be seen around town, including City Hall.  Currently Nancy is creating acrylic gouache paintings mainly of animals with a whimsical bent.  She does many commissions and memorial pieces.  You can find her work at Peterson’s, Crossroads-Carnegie Art Center, and Royal Artisan in Baker City, and via her website:  https://www.yessy.com/nancycoffelt/gallery.html   An alleyway entrance. This piece was created during earlier days of the Covid pandemic, expressing the challenge of bravely facing a new and mysterious situation.  Nancy's palette....bright colors!
